Hope at a scary time July 22, 2010 mamadonna In the middle of caring for my 50-year-old husband during his dying process my hair dresser gave me a copy of this book. I was so scared that I wouldn't know what to do, how to care for him and I would cause more pain than be a source of strength or comfort. I am a Believer, a Follower of Jesus. I didn't see this book as going against anything I believed. I saw it has a tool, information for me as to what to expect. I was so grateful for messages that made me feel like we were dealing with normal feelings and were having some of the same experiences others had had. I knew it wouldn't be a step by step guide - "this is exactly the way it will happen" manual but it was a reminder that this very scary situation has happend millions of times and others have been able to care for their loved one. It helped me feel that I could "do it." My husband was amazing. Preparing for his death and sharing his love became the focus of his life. I just feel like Final Gifts was one of the gifts we were given for the journey.
Final Gifts- A Gift for Its Reader July 18, 2010 Paul H. This book is a gift for anyone who cares for the actively dying. The authors provide examples of effective listening techniques as well as Near Death Awareness experiences that exemplify what to listen for. I found these authors' insights very helpful in exploring the minds of those who are living out their end of life transitions. The understanding gained from this book provides caregivers some necessary tools for being effective helpers.
Final Gifts is recommended reading July 5, 2010 Grandma Final Gifts: Understanding the Special Awareness, Needs, and Communication of the Dying was recommended to me by a hospice organization who is caring for a dear relative of mine. This book is a great help and comfort.
very helpful June 23, 2010 Rosemary A. Gordon (Tucson, AZ USA) For anyone facing the loss of a loved one, this book will help you understand the process they are going through and help you be more at peace with what is going on. It is well written and something that helped me through my mother's death from cancer. I have passed this book on to my friends when they have faced the challenges of an aging or dying parent and it has been very helpful to them too.
A book for all people June 21, 2010 Web Warrior (Springfield, VA) This is one of the most important books I have recently purchased and read. It deals with something most of us fear, death and dying. Written by two marvelous Hospice nurses it details their experiences with a multitude of different people approaching the end of their life. Each situation is different. People for the most part have a lot more control and peace at the end of their life. Not everyone but a great majority do. This book is important because it not only helps us with our concerns about the end of life but it helps us deal with loved ones and friends who are facing the end of life or those who have someone dear to them who is. I think, by definition, that is virtually all of us. This is a book that everyone should read and have in their library. I try to keep a couple of copies around the house to give to friends who need to read the wisdom it contains. Buy it. You will glad you did.
