Mini DisplayPorts dating before April 2010 do not support audio out and will not transmit sound. **
Helpful Notes: This device is intended to function more as an adapter than as a cable, meaning its short length WILL NOT reach from your Mac to the monitor. It will need to be used with an HDMI cable (sold separately).
Highest resolution supported: 1080p.
Apple is now licensing Mini DisplayPort technology, so this item also works with Toshiba Satellite Pro S500; Tecra M11, A11 & S11.

At the time of this review, I paid less than 6 dollars. Great price for what else is out on Amazon. I was considering one of the hdmi converters that have the audio and usb to feed audio through but you can also purchase a very cheap auxiliary cable for 2 dollars to do the same thing. Just an extra cable that you can use in your car if you want. Anyway, very inexpensive and works as advertised. I am running it through a October 2009 aluminum macbook.

Before you buy something you should read the specs, see below quote from Apple.
Audio support is only available for MacBook Pro 13/15/17-in. mid-2010 release; iMac 21.5/27-in. early-2010 release

As I read, it displays what is on my MacBook on my LCD TV but there is no sound. It is good for surfing the net but not playing videos. I think iChat will be cool on the big screen but I have not tried it.

I bought Mini DisplayPort to HDMI TV Monitor Adapter for Macbook and it wasnt the right one. Its horrible cause the pictures they post are not even the right thing.
