| Customer Reviews: best thing since sliced bread.. April 18, 2010 Karen A. Coolidge (Lakewood,Wa USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My husband has a Acer and when we got our taxes back he said to find an inexpensive computer because my old computer would not pull the memory to play games and other stuff. I am very impressed with my new computer and all its capabilities. Thank you for such a great computer.
Good Computer - More than what it is worth March 31, 2010 R. Falk 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a good computer. Please do not listen to the review listed below as this must have been the first time this person dealt with setting up a new PC. I had absolutely no problems setting it up and had everything finished within a half an hour. All the software is already pre-installed on the computer so you do not need 10 different disks, which is a good thing, it makes things more organized and easier to set up. The only part that took quite some time was backing up the computer to DVDs but this is reasonalbe as it would take about 15 mins to do on any computer.
Now onto the review:
The screen is absolutely beautiful. It can be a very bright screen if you want, but can also be dim if you want that as well. The keyboard and mouse it comes with are very generic and standard, they work fine but if you dont want that plastic feel of a keyboard I would advise getting a mouse/keyboard yourself although the ones this computer comes with are perfectly fine for me. There are some real weak speakers on the monitor which work, but not that well, but this is reasonalbe for some 1 watt speakers or whatever they are. I'd advise to get some speakers yourself. The computer itself is very small which is nice because it can fit anywhere. The only pet peeves I have are the blue led light on the power bar and the vertical cd/dvd drive. Now, the vertical cd/dvd drive can have an easy fix like putting the computer lying down sort of like you would an xbox 360 I would imagine. The power light is something I wish there was an option to turn off. I have not found this option yet in the computer settings so if anyone does find this, please let me know! There is a plethera of USB ports, and something that was very important to me, an HDMI port. With many computers, you have to pay extra for HDMI but this computer has it standard which is awesome!
For me, the computer runs brilliantly. It is very fast and windows 7 is a lot easier to navigate and pick up than I thought it would coming from windows xp. I can have several programs open at once, 3,4,5 programs, and the computer still runs without any hiccups. Overall, I really enjoy this computer and is more than worth the money. I would recommend this computer to anyone who needs one that will run very well, as long as you don't need to play lots of video games on your computer. Ultimately, this computer give you the best bang for the buck.
Bad news, stay away, on it's way back to Amazon March 30, 2010 Stephen G. Horlick (Gillette, WY) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'll start at the beginning. Only documentation useful for a beginner was a getting started card in about 25 languages, very basic stuff about what get's plugged in where. Only one disk and that was for the monitor.
I set it up with the basics then the next morning I adjusted the screen resolution and when the screen updated it had corrupted the windows 7 sticky notes program. I searched online for a fix from microsoft, no luck. ACER does not provide phone support so I e-mailed them and to their credit they responded in less than an hour. I was advised to do a system restore from safe mode. I did and when it finished I was looking at a solid blue screen, arggghhhh!
I shut the machine down and was able to restart again in safe mode. I chose an earlier restore point and crossed my fingers to no avail, system restore did it's thing and this time left me with a solid black screen.
Other minor things I did'nt like. There's very little useful documentation available anywhere, at the support site online etc.
The DVD drawer is mounted vertically, personal preference I guess.
There's a bright blue LED running across the top of the machine and half way down the right side, Part of the top is the power button but it's not marked as such. When the computer sleeps the whole LED blinks about twice a second. The only remedy is to set the machine to "never" sleep.
I shipped it back.
