Amazon.com Sydney Pollack's 1985 multiple-Oscar winner is a sumptuous and emotionally satisfying film about the life of Danish writer Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep), better known as Isak Dinesen, who travels to Kenya to be with her German husband (Klaus Maria Brandauer) but falls for an English adventurer (Robert Redford). The film is slow in developing the relationship, but it is rich in beautiful images of Africa and in the romantic tone surrounding Blixen's gradual discovery of her life and voice. One downside: while we may all love Redford, he is as convincingly British as Kevin Costner is in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. --Tom Keogh

Timeless masterpiece July 11, 2010 S. Gray 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Based on a true story that takes place from 1913 to the early 1920's. My favorite part is the music and cinematography. My mom and I have watched this movie every few years and we never get bored of it. The soundtrack is wonderful on it's own.
There must have been VERY tough competition on Oscar night because Streep's performance definitely is one of the best that I've seen for a drama. This release includes interviews with Streep and Pollack. I was surprised to see a short interview (1999?) with the man who in real life was the young boy who goes to Karen with his injured leg. The video includes some photographs from the time period in Kenya.
Love the movie, the Disk, not so much. July 6, 2010 revjrq (Knoxville, TN) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great movie, decent picture but the disk is hard to tell which side is dvd or which side is bluray. Plus there isn't any thing on the disk but the miniature title.

The movie was interesting. Most interesting was the photography of the African wildlife and outback. The soundtrack was outstanding.
Great movie, great on Blu-ray June 15, 2010 James Frick 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Very deserving of the Best Picture Oscar. Streep is outstanding. Africa looks gorgeous on Blu-ray.
So happy! June 12, 2010 One that knows (Fresno, Ca) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The tape arrived promptly and in great condition. I'm so happy to finally have this movie in it's full unedited version. Couldn't be happier and of course this is absolutely one of my favorite movies.
